Artist's Statement

“I can’t imagine what goes on in that mind of yours?” – That is one of the most frequent feedback I hear from my audience. I don’t really know how to appropriately respond to this, but I get where they‘re coming from.

My work is an intimate glimpse into my mind; it is an expression of my moods, my struggles, my joys and the inspirations in my life. So yes, I get their feedback, because it is disconcerting and mind-blowing; when all these emotions are suddenly there, right smack in front of your face.

There had been nearly a 20-year gap in my work. This gap portrays lucidly the transformation I had undergone. In my younger days, it was a daily struggle against dark thoughts. Subconsciously, I have reflected my struggles through my play with darker tones of colours and coarser lines. My pieces back then had an unfinished feel to them. Now, being at peace with my inner demons, I see my more recent pieces as a marrying of colours, beauty with a psychedelic twist – Gary Ng, Abstract Artist.
